Checking the Eruv

The Eruv is checked every week to make sure that every part of the “eruv” is intact, each and every “lechi” and wire or string. It is checked as close to Shabbos as possible (Friday or late Thursday) to provide the best possible assurance that it will remain intact throughout Shabbos. Once it is checked, we rely on a chazaka, the “status quo” that if it was intact before Shabbos, it will remain intact throughout the course of Shabbos.
